Artist Toolkit 2 - Moom Facial Animation Exercise

For our facial animation class we were tasked to capture the basic facial motions within the video shown. This included taking into account of making a 'lively' character and not one with 'dead' features, helping to sell the illusion.

Artist Toolkit 2 - Info-graphic, Sherlock Holmes

For this toolkit exercise the class was required to create an info-graphic style piece of animation to use as a title sequence for a selected film or series. My chosen film was the 2009 'Sherlock Holmes' Directed by Guy Ritchie. The aim was to create a fitting piece of animation lasting 30 seconds for the following media.

The news paper was created to be reminiscent of a Victorian broadsheet and contains a number of references to Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. Animation including using a number of blurs and adjustment layers to attempt to recreate an authentic feel.

Story Telling and Commission: Fantastic Voyage, Progress update 2

The majority of the animation has been completed. With the lack of Maya at home it has been a struggle to complete most of the work load but it has been possible. Currently only a few scenes are missing including the G2 and S phase. Additionally the voice has arrived with multiple takes. The final takes have been selected and cut. Finishing touches visually include correcting the colour, changing the transitions and adding titles to the scenes.

Artist toolkit - flash, Show Reel

Story Telling and Commission: Fantastic Voyage, Progress update 1

It has been a while since this blog has been updated, currently several seconds of the animation have been completed and rendered. Cyril has been completely finished and rigged. Alongside Cyril props such as the school, book and pencils have been modelled. While a large majority of the animation has yet to be finished the scene below has been completed. Despite this I have realised that the scenes will have to be re-rendered as they are not sRGB gamma colour corrected. Alongside this a voice actor has been hired and will have the voice completed by the 30th.

Storytelling & Commision: From Script to Screen, Animatic 1

First animatic without sound, this requires a bit more of a trim to allow better timing. More of the frames towards the end need to be cleaned up as the 2 minutes do not allow for the slower pace that is desired.

Artist Toolkit - Adobe Premiere, Like for Like Animatic (27/01/17)

For today's exercise the class was tasked to use the storyboards that have been drawn before hand to create short animatics. This was completed by editing the storyboards to ensure they are a consistent size and are saved as separate images. They were then put together using Adobe Premiere.

Artist toolkit - flash, Flour Sack Animation (20/01/17)

For this week's animation class the group was asked to create an animated flour sack. Alongside bringing the bag to life it was also necessary to incorporate the previous lessons adding weight, arcs, anticipation, emotion, follow through, secondary animations, squash and stretch, staging, slow in and slow out, timing, exaggeration, solid drawing and appeal.

Artist toolkit - Flash, Weight in Movement (13/01/17)

For this week's exercise the class was required to draw a number of figures that portrayed weight in the object. This was done though using various postures to help convey the sense of weight.

Alongside drawing 3 different postures an animation was also created from a reference video showing weight in the stride.

Artist toolkit - flash, Four Legged Walk Cycle (09/12/16)

For Friday's lesson the class was required to create a walk cycle for a four legged creature. This was done with a more festive theme in mind. The chosen animal was a wolf going at a leisurely pace. The final GIF shown has a slightly higher frame rate in mind but still contains the required walk cycle.

Final wolf animation
The base model for the wolf was taken from a template of a four legged animal, the rest of frames for the cycle was completed through guess work. After this process was completed the body was drawn into place using the reference.
